Five Blue Jays Give Practice All They've Got!
These Blue Jays might look like they have their arms around each other because they are a tight team...
...but it is also because they are so tired they need to lean on their teammates.
Coach Steve started practice using the tee. Each player had to work on a level swing and watch the ball extra carefully to get a hit.
William Amorosi liked the way his hits looked sailing out past second base.
William ran really fast to first base on every hit and was safe most of the time but the fielders got him out on this one! Go Blue Jays!
George Roggie listened to Coach Steve's (otherwise known as Daddy's) advice and connected using the fat part of the bat. George hit some really hard smashes to the left side of the field including a line drive caught in the air by Jake Schuman.
Jake Schuman stretched his abilities and hit solidly to the outfield.
Jake enjoyed running the bases after his big hits!
Braden Poon showed perfect form lining up at the tee before knocking ball after ball out of the infield. Braden's hits were almost too hot to handle!
John Wyatt is a true Blue Jay.. a sweet player who swings a mean bat.
John loved running the bases after each blast.
His hard swings gave the Blue Jays a workout.
John even pulled Coach Steve into the action trying to chase him down!
After hitting from the tee, John and the rest of the Blue Jays practiced fielding with Coach Steve at bat. This is what we like to call "making outs." The team made lots of outs from every position.
Jake threw this one to Braden at 1st base.
Braden made some perfect throws from the pitcher's helper position.
George Roggie stepped on the bag for a quick out. Let's try this again during the game!
William Amorosi made two beautiful outs playing first base. He caught a throw from George and then fielded a grounder to make an unassisted out. Go William!
The pop fly drill was extra hard but the team was determined.
The players made 20 clean catches.
Each player caught the ball including a few short balls...
And a few really high high-poppers.
The players saved just enough energy to climb the fence. We hope everyone gets a good night's rest. The game starts at 2:30 at Westbrook Elementary. Please arrive by 2:00 so we can warm up. Go Blue Jays!
Sarah (because Coach Steve got tired too!)
