The Blue Jays celebrated 10/10/10 with a record 15 put-outs in their game with the Braves Sunday, October 10. All nine players made valuable contributions to this spectacular team effort!
Aleka Frazier was ready to play from the moment she stepped on the diamond. In warm-ups with Coach Steve, Aleka caught fly balls in the air and delivered picture-perfect throws!
Braden Poon is a very fundamentally sound baseball player. It doesn't matter whether he's throwing, catching, or hitting. This guy knows how to play the game!
Ethan Yu was seriously focused for the game with the Braves. Even in warm-ups, he went about his business with a purpose. His catches and throws improved with each attempt!
George Roggie was inspired after watching his 12 year-old cousin's BCC baseball game earlier in the day. Warming up just like the big boys, George was ready to put his skills to the test!
Jake Schuman thinks about baseball a lot. That's one reason why he's such a good player! Jake was a cool customer during the game with the Braves, taking time to pose for a photo with George!
Jeremy Robertson prepared for a fine day in the field by catching pop-ups before the game. Another player who just keeps getting better and better, Jeremy was ready to deliver a big-time performance while having big fun with his teammates!
Michael Hardie arrived early and impressed often. He took turns catching and throwing fly balls with his teammates before Sunday's game.
Having spent the last two weekends out of town, Sam Berman was ready for some baseball! Above, Sam stretches during pregame warm-ups. He must have suspected that he would have a busy day making plays in the field. He was right!
Prior to the game, William Amorosi reported that he was feeling a little bit tired. We couldn't tell! Here, William delivers yet another accurate throw during warm-ups. Like all of the Blue Jays, William would go on to play extremely well in the game with the Braves.
October 10 Game Report
After starting the game with a hearty, "Go Blue Jays!" cheer, the team proceeded to play brilliantly in the field and hit ferociously at the plate!
The Blue Jays needed little time to get their first out of the game. Above, Braden Poon holds the ball at 1st base after he caught a terrific throw from Jake Schuman for the put-out.
Jake delivered the ball to Braden after he had fielded a grounder at the left pitcher's helper position. Later in the first inning, these two guys would team up again to get another out.
Sam Berman made force outs look easy at 2nd base in the first inning. Above, Sam coolly steps on the base for an unassisted put-out as his teammates observe with approval. Sam added a second unassisted force out at 2nd base later in the first inning.
Braden Poon was a busy young man at 1st base. Above, Braden provides a great target and catches the throw from George Roggie for the Blue Jays' fifth out of the first inning.
George had fielded a soft grounder at right pitcher's helper and, throwing from his knees, delivered a perfect toss to Braden. What a play!
Michael Hardie put the finishing touch on a splendid first inning when he stopped a ground ball and stepped on 3rd base for a force out. Michael alertly turned and threw the ball to 2nd base in an attempt to get a double play. Great idea, Michael!
After collecting six put-outs in the first inning, the Blue Jays added three more in the second frame!
Good things happen when Aleka Frazier plays 3rd base. Aleka got the first out of the second inning when she stopped a bouncing ground ball and stepped on the base for a force out. Way to go, Aleka!
Sam Berman made the final two outs of the second inning from the left pitcher's helper position. In each instance, Sam fielded a slow grounder and ran to home plate to get the force out. That's a great way to stop the other team from scoring runs!
Playing at 1st base in the third inning, Sam added two more unassisted put-outs. Above, Sam receives congratulations from Coach Steve after he stopped a bouncing ground ball and stepped on the base for an out.
Here, Sam gets the assist on another out at first base. He gave his teammate a great target and caught the ball for the third out of the final inning.
The throw was delivered by this gentleman. Michael Hardie fielded the ball at the right pitcher's helper position and delivered a perfect strike to first base for the assist! The Blue Jays were working together like a well oiled machine!
Check out Braden Poon at 3rd base as he sizes up the throw from George Roggie. They connected to get the force out in the third inning. On the previous play, George moved to his right, fielded a grounder, and stepped on 3rd base for an unassisted force out. Later, Braden registered the Blue Jays' 15th and final out of the game when he snagged a grounder and stepped on 3rd base for a force out.
William Amorosi contributed to the Blue Jays' fine defensive display when he stopped a well hit ground ball at the right pitcher's helper position in the second inning. William also made a nice play on a hot smash to left shortstop in the bottom of the first inning.
Jeremy Robertson demonstrated some fantastic fielding skills when he stopped a hard grounder at 2nd base in the second inning. Jeremy also did a great job in the outfield, hustling to chase down a hard line drive and return the ball to the infield in the first inning.
In the third inning, Ethan Yu played 2nd base in a game for the very first time. Not surprisingly, he did an outstanding job. He remembered to cover his base whenever the ball was hit to one of his teammates. He also came very close to getting an infield assist when he caught a throw from George Roggie. Great job, Ethan!
Blue Jays are a Hit!
Jake Schuman was a leader of the Blue Jays' hit parade in the game with the Braves. Jake socked a line drive past the right shortstop and added two solid grounders up the middle. Better yet, he did it all with a smile on his face. That's the Blue Jay Way!
Braden Poon's line drive to left field in the first inning drew oohs and aahs from fans of both teams! That ball went halfway to Rockville! Braden added two more great hits up the middle in the second and third innings.
Jeremy Robertson was fantastic at the plate! He belted three solid hits through the infield and collected multiple RBI. That means that Jeremy's teammates scored runs because he hit the ball!
Jeremy demonstrated true grit on the base paths, as well. Above, he sprints to 1st base as fast as he can to beat the throw safely in the second inning.
Michael "The Slugger" Hardie continued to use his bat to terrorize baseballs in the game with the Braves. Above, Michael keeps his eye on the ball prior to blasting a high fly ball to center field in the second inning. Michael's deep fly ball to left field in the first inning brought the crowd to its feet! We can't be certain, but we suspect that Michael's hits left the game ball battered and bruised!
Ethan Yu worked quickly and effectively in his three plate appearances. Above, Ethan gets ready to send a rocket shot to 2nd base in the second inning. Ethan made good contact and drove in several runs.
Nobody has to tell Ethan to run fast. He takes care of that all on his own. Above, Ethan races to 1st base following his outstanding hit in the second inning. Ethan had a fine day offensively, driving in runs with his bat and scoring runs with his feet!
Aleka Frazier reached 1st base safely in all three trips to the plate! Above, Aleka commences one of her awesome swings. Her hits through the middle of the infield drove in even more runs for the Blue Jays!
William Amorosi picked up where he left off in Saturday's practice, keeping his eye on the ball and smacking hits up the middle. In his third and final at-bat, William required just one pitch to deliver a scorching grounder that rolled all the way to center field!
George Roggie continued to swing a hot bat, reaching 1st base safely in another 3-for-3 batting performance. That's not to say that it was easy. George came perilously close to grounding out in the second inning.
Fortunately, George's terrific hustle and fleet feet saved the day! Above, George sprints to 1st base. His finishing kick and a flying leap to the bag enabled him to beat the fielder to the base. That's the way to do your best, George!
Sam Berman knows exactly what he's looking for in a pitch. Unfortunately, Coach Steve was delivering something else entirely in the first inning. After laying off of a few sub-par offerings, Sam found one to his liking and smoked a hot line drive to left field! Sam added a grounder up the middle and a line drive to center field in his subsequent plate appearances. This discriminating hitter had quite a day!
Parental Guidance Appreciated
Thanks to Tom Yu for reprising his role as 1st base coach! Tom also helped during warm-ups, providing guidance to help players learn to throw and catch safely and effectively.
Shari Schuman was a great addition to the game day coaching roster! We were very pleased to have her share her wisdom with the many Blue Jays who visited her at 3rd base before they ran home and scored runs!
Sean Frazier caught all three innings for the Blue Jays. Here, he gets a good, close look at the fine batting form demonstrated by his daughter, Aleka. Thanks, Sean!
Thanks also to Torsdon Poon for helping the players warm up before the game and for helping Sarah keep the batting order intact! We also thank the Schuman Family and the Berman Family for providing the postgame snacks and drinks, respectively.
Great Team, Great Game
As always, the Blue Jays demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship, congratulating the Braves for a good, fun game.
Great game, Blue Jays!
We have only two games left to play this season. Let's have fun, do our best, and demonstrate great sportsmanship just like we did in the game with the Braves!
Coach Steve
