The Blue Jays gave fans many reasons to cheer Sunday, October 3, with a fantastic team effort in their game with the Dodgers! They worked together to score runs, make outs, and encourage each other throughout a sparkling performance by the entire team.
Congratulations, Blue Jays! You really made us proud!
October 3 Game Report
Justin Conner had an awesome all-around game! Above, Justin prepares to crank one of three line drives that he delivered to right field. He collected two singles, a double, and multiple RBIs.
Here, Justin demonstrates his heads-up fielding position at 2nd base, where he made three outs in the second inning. First, Justin fielded a grounder and stepped on the base for a force-out. Later, he caught a high fly ball in the air and tapped his toe on the base to double-up the runner. Justin had an incredible game!
George Roggie and Jake Schuman enjoyed a lighthearted moment on the bench after they teamed up to make an incredible put-out at 3rd base. The play began when Jake fielded a grounder at the left pitcher's helper position. He then delivered an accurate throw to George at 3rd base.
Take a look at the result in the photo above. George made a great catch to get the assisted force-out! George also collected an unassisted put-out at 1st base in the second inning.
George put in a solid day's work at the plate, as well. Above, he tags one of three singles that he collected for the game. George went on to score a run in every inning!
Jake also enjoyed a productive day offensively. He slammed two towering blasts to right field and advanced the base runners with a grounder to 1st base. Above, Jake stands on third, preparing to sprint the final 60 feet for another Blue Jays' run!
Jeremy Robertson and Braden Poon proved to be another dynamic duo. In the second inning, Braden fielded a sharp grounder at left pitcher's helper. Jeremy, playing at third, alertly covered his base and raised his mitt to give Braden a terrific target. Braden tossed a perfect throw that Jeremy caught to complete the force-out. What a great play!
Jeremy provided another highlight at 3rd base in the second inning. He grabbed a hot grounder and stepped on the base for another out.
In the photo above, Braden finishes the second inning hat trick at the hot corner! He swiped a grounder at left pitcher's helper and sprinted to beat the runner to 3rd base. As you can see, Jeremy was right there to offer congratulations!
Jeremy contributed to the Blue Jays' hit parade with three solid singles that ended each inning. He made good contact and drove in runs for his team!
Braden wore a look of intensity throughout the game. When it was time to hit, he delivered line shots to the outfield in all three innings. Mothers are advised to bring their children inside whenever Braden unleashes his powerful swing!
William Amorosi was another clutch performer for the Blue Jays. Above, William stares down the pitch before uncorking a hard grounder through the middle of the infield.
Playing at 2nd base in the first inning, William registered the first put-out of the day. He cleanly fielded a bouncing ground ball and stepped on the base for a force-out. William's work with the glove seems to improve by leaps and bounds in every practice and game!
Aleka Frazier gave the Blue Jays a big lift offensively, belting three big hits through the middle of the infield. Fielders need to be quick when Aleka puts the bat on the ball.
Her speed means that there is little room for error! Here, Aleka legs out one of three singles that she collected Sunday afternoon. Aleka also made a terrific play at 2nd base in the third inning, fielding a tough ground ball and almost beating the runner to the base for an out. Aleka did everything that she was supposed to do on that play!
John Wyatt was the lead-off hitter in the game with the Dodgers. He set the table for the offense in each inning. Above, John prepares to chop a base hit to the 2nd baseman.
John hustled down the baseline in each plate appearance. Above, John reaches 1st base safely because he continued to run as fast as he could. It might look like he was going to be out. However, the 1st baseman came off of the bag to make the catch. John was safe because he did not give up!
John was terrific in the field, too! Here, he pays close attention to the batter while playing the right shortstop position. John also did a fantastic job at right pitcher's helper.
Michael Hardie appears to have been appropriately pleased when he exited the diamond following the top of the first inning. Michael made a great stop of a hard grounder at left shortstop. He also played well at 1st base and in the outfield.
Here's a face that says, "You guys had better take a few steps back." Michael put his intensity to good use, smashing two high fly balls to left field. Michael's powerful stroke allowed him to claim multiple RBIs.
Ethan Yu kept the right side of the Dodgers' infield very busy. His hitting improved with each at-bat. In his final trip to the plate, Ethan rocketed a sharp single to the right shortstop.
In the photo above, Ethan clearly has the undivided attention of his teammates as he watches the ball and starts his powerful swing. Ethan also did a fine job defensively at both left shortstop and right shortstop.
Check out the focused look on Ava Curley's face as she sizes up the pitch and begins her awesome swing! Ava rocked three hits through the infield. In her final at-bat, she clobbered the ball on the first pitch. One of her many fans suggested that we give her a new nickname - Ava "One Pitch" Curley. We like that idea!
Ava was fabulous in the field, as well. Here, she takes stock of the situation from the left shortstop position, where she courageously knocked down a very well hit bouncing ball in the second inning.
Overall, the Blue Jays came through with a sterling performance. As Michael, Jeremy and Justin show us in the photo above, they had lots of fun!
John, Braden and all of their teammates worked together eye-to-eye and did their best!
Afterward, they demonstrated great sportsmanship, congratulating the Dodgers, a nice team that gave us a great game!
Parental Teammates
Thanks to Tom Yu for again doing such a terrific job coaching 1st base. Above, Tom shares a few words of wisdom with his son, Ethan.
We were also very glad to have Kevin Conner coaching at 3rd base for a second consecutive week. Above, Kevin surveys the field for the benefit of his son, Justin.
The Blue Jays owe a hearty "thank you" to Chris Robertson, who had the unenviable task of catching Coach Steve's pitches from behind the plate. Happily, the job did provide Chris a front row seat to watch his son, Jeremy.
Thanks also to Torsdon Poon, who kept the batting order intact and organized the Blue Jays' bench. This allowed Sarah to take the photos that you see here.
The players were particularly appreciative of the Yu Family and the Curley Family, who provided the postgame snacks and drinks, respectively. Thank you!
Blue Jays move forward Together
The Blue Jays will be back again next week for another exciting practice and game. John Wyatt and Ethan Yu already look like they're ready to go!
The Lady Jays are two more reasons why we can't wait to see you all again next weekend.
Great game, Blue Jays!
Coach Steve
