The Blue Jays prepared for their game with the Dodgers during a spirited practice Saturday, October 2 at Walt Whitman High School. Michael Hardie, William Amorosi, Braden Poon, Ethan Yu, George Roggie, Jake Schuman and Jeremy Robertson had fun, did their best, and demonstrated great sportsmanship toward their teammates!
Saturday, October 2 Practice Report
Braden Poon continued to show tremendous opposite field power! Braden cracked multiple hits to right field. He also had a fine day with the glove, making great catches during the fly ball drill and delivering strong, accurate throws to 1st base during infield practice.
Above, Jeremy Robertson shows us how he gives his teammates a great target at 1st base. Jeremy had a terrific practice. He swatted hits to the right side of the infield. Jeremy also continues to demonstrate a big arm whenever he throws the ball.
Michael Hardie was in fine form during Saturday's practice. Here, Michael flawlessly fields a ground ball before stepping on 1st base for an unassisted put-out. Michael played well at 2nd base, too. He was also outstanding at the plate, smashing grounders and low line drives through the left side of the infield.
William Amorosi just keeps getting better and better! Above, William assumes a heads-up fielding stance at 3rd base. William cracked several big hits during batting practice. He gracefully fielded grounders in the infield and even caught a fly ball during the pop-up drill!
Ethan Yu has some serious guts! After absorbing a hard throw with his knee, Ethan stuck with the play, picked up the ball and delivered a great throw to his teammate. Ethan played extremely well at right shortstop, running up to the slow rolling ground balls rather than waiting for them to come to him. Ethan also banged some fantastic hits during batting practice.
Jake Schuman always provides a good target when he plays 1st base. Saturday, Jake did a great job listening and learning how to take his time and throw accurately so that his teammates have a better chance to catch the ball. Jake also adjusted his batting stance, keeping his hands back until the ball arrives in order to maximize his natural power. That's why we practice - to learn and improve. Great job, Jake!
George Roggie is a southpaw who really knows how to make a big catch! He caught several fly balls during the pop-up drill after smoothly fielded hard grounders all afternoon. In batting practice, George showed tremendous power, shooting line drives to left, center and right field. This might have been George's best practice ever!
Lots of Help
Thanks to Mark Amorosi for catching during the first half of batting practice. As you see in the photo above, Mark was relieved by Tom Yu for the second half. Torsdon Poon contributed some very valuable batting tips.
Special thanks to Susan Poon for taking all of the practice photos!
Game Day Forecast calls for Fun
The Blue Jays will play the Dodgers Sunday, October 3 at 1:00pm at Westbrook Elementary School. Please try to arrive at 12:30 so that we can warm up, arrange the batting order and establish our fielding positions for the first inning.
We will be in the field first because we are the home team. The forecast suggests that we are fortunate to be playing in the early game.
Thanks to Kelli and Tom Yu for volunteering to bring the snacks. Thanks also to Maureen and Tom Curley for agreeing to bring the drinks.
Go Blue Jays!
Let's have fun, do our best, and demonstrate great sportsmanship in our game with the Dodgers!
