The Season Begins!

Hi Blue Jays! Welcome to the Spring 2010 BCC Baseball Season! We hope that everyone had a great time and learned a lot at our first practice. Coach Steve learned something, namely that it's difficult to have all twelve kids bat in a one hour practice. We'll adjust our practice plan next week so that everybody gets a turn at bat! April 10 Practice Report We were thrilled to have the entire team at practice. Almost everyone arrived in time to practice throwing and fielding ground balls. Suzanne Pearl and George Roggie did a great job moving their feet and stopping the ball. In fact, Coach Steve was very impressed with how everyone who was on the team last year has improved, and he was very happy to see how quickly our new players - Ava Curley, Aleka Frazier and Braden Poon - learned much of what we taught last year. Everybody did a great job running the bases. Above, Sam Berman, George Roggie and Aleka Frazier run to 1st base, followed by Suzanne Pearl, Ryder Coleman and Ava Curley. We also practiced running from 1st base to 2nd base and from 2nd all the way home. We then worked on finding our positions in the field. For example, we learned that right shortstop is between 1st base and 2nd base and that left shortstop is between 2nd base and 3rd base. One of our goals this season is to let everyone play as many positions as possible. We spent most of practice having fun in small groups. Justin Conner, Allen Tousi and Ryder Coleman showed Coach Steve how much bigger and stronger they are this year. They really pounded the ball in batting practice! Ava Curley took batting practice for the first time ever and delivered three great hits. Aleka Frazier continued to hit the ball well in batting practice, just like last week. Andre Schnider, Michael Hardie, James Aitken and Sam Berman did an awesome job catching fly balls. We'll work on pop-ups a lot more this year. We thank Steve Berman for helping out at the batting tee. All parents who would like to participate are encouraged to help at practices and games. Game Day - Sunday, April 11 We ended practice at the Red Bag, where we talked about Sunday's opening game. We play the Giants at Wood Acres Elementary School at 4:00 p.m. Coach Steve encouraged everyone to be there at 3:30. Oh, and we handed out our new Blue Jays baseball shirts.
