Blue Jays Play Great in Season Opener

We could not have asked for a better day to open the 2010 BCC Baseball Season. The sun was shining, the new hats were delivered, and the Blue Jays were ready to play the Giants. We were so happy to have the entire team on the field. Thank you, parents, for all that you do to allow your children to participate!

April 11 Game Report: Blue Jays vs. Giants

We did not work in practice on making put-outs, but that did not stop the Blue Jays from doing it in the game against the Giants. In the first inning, Justin Conner stopped a ground ball and stepped on 2nd base for a force out. Suzanne Pearl beautifully fielded a grounder at left pitcher's helper and threw to George Roggie at third base for another early out. Later, Braden Poon and Andre Schnider both made unassisted force outs for the Blue Jays. Below, Andre demonstrates his heads-up fielding position.

We will continue to get better as a team when we learn more about making outs at practice next week.

One skill that the Blue Jays have always emphasized is fielding ground balls. The whole team did a great job with grounders in Sunday's game.

Aleka Frazier stopped a hard-hit ground ball at 2nd base in the 1st inning and another one at right shortstop later in the game.

Braden Poon and Ryder Coleman made a lot of great stops at the pitcher's helper positions.

Sam Berman made some terrific plays at 3rd base.

George Roggie had some really good stops at 2nd base.

Blue Jays at the Plate

The Blue Jays had some nice hits in the 1st inning, but the bats really came alive in the bottom of the 2nd.

Justin Conner slammed two hits to right field.

Andre Schnider smacked a couple of balls to left field.

Ava Curley clobbered two hits up the middle in her very first game! Michael Hardie had a hit that went all the way to left field. James Aitken and Allen Tousi chipped in with some terrific hits past the left shortstop.

Braden Poon hit one up the middle so hard that Coach Steve could not get out of the way fast enough. The coach will try to move faster next time. Check out Braden's awesome batting stance in the picture above. That's beautiful!

Above, Ryder Coleman keeps his back foot on the ground - exactly the right way to do it - as he prepares to smack a hit.

Blue Jays Parents (and Siblings) are the Best!

Thank you to Marty Schnider & Son for catching and helping the kids get lined up properly at the plate. We also appreciated Torsdon Poon helping us get the kids to their positions in the outfield. Landon Poon was an MVP Bat Boy. Cameron Tousi helped Sarah manage the bench and led the Blue Jays cheering section. Special thanks to Susan Poon for taking all of the fabulous game pictures. Susan managed to get so many good shots that we plan to post more of them throughout the week.

Great game, Blue Jays! We all had a lot of fun and everybody played really well. The first game was a huge success. We will continue to learn and have fun in the weeks ahead!

Coach Steve
