Blue Jays get ready for Diamondbacks!

The Blue Jays looked terrific at the plate and on the field Saturday, April 17, as they prepared to play the Diamondbacks at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at North Chevy Chase Park. Everyone is encouraged to arrive at 3:30.

April 17 Practice Report

Seven Blue Jays - Sam Berman, Braden Poon, Suzanne Pearl, George Roggie, Michael Hardie, Ryder Coleman and James Aitken - did a great job in Saturday's practice.

Above, Sam Berman takes a great swing at the plate. Sam scattered hits all over the field!

Braden Poon continued to show off his picture-perfect batting stance. Braden hit several balls to the right side of the infield.

George Roggie added some good hits. Here, George takes a moment to admire his hard hit up the middle.

Suzanne Pearl seems to hit the ball harder and harder at every practice and game. Suzanne consistently pulled the ball down the third base line at Saturday's practice.

Michael Hardie was ready to run as soon as he arrived at practice. Above, Michael takes off for 1st after hitting a hot grounder to center field.

The Blue Jays looked like they were ready to play the game Saturday. Never mind that the game is Sunday!

Blue Jays learn how to throw 'em Out

We used most of our practice time to learn how to make force-outs at 1st base and 2nd base. The action included this footrace to 1st by Ryder Coleman and Michael Hardie. Players took turns playing 1st base and shortstop and running the bases. Everyone did a great job!

Sam Berman did a fantastic job on several plays including this close race to first with base runner Braden Poon.

Sam also delivered this beautiful throw to George Roggie, who did a terrific job covering 1st base. It looks like Braden managed to reach 1st safely, but it was a very close play!

Here, Michael Hardie shows us how to give his teammates a great target at 1st base. James Aitken hustled down the baseline to beat the throw on this one. Sam Berman looks on, obviously impressed with Michael's technique and James's speed on the base path.

Suzanne Pearl continued to stop every ground ball that came her way. Suzanne does an excellent job keeping her body in front of the ball so it can't bounce away.

Blue Jays find their Positions

We ended practice with the Blue Jays running as a team to different positions in the field. Every player improved this week. This team is beginning to know its way around a baseball diamond!

The Blue Jays ran a lot at this practice.

When it was over, Suzanne Pearl took a moment to reflect on everything that we had learned.

Meanwhile, James Aitken and Michael Hardie showed us how to be good teammates.

Appreciation from the Coach

Many thanks to Steve Berman for catching during batting practice. We also thank Adam Pearl, Suzanne's very big brother, for helping us teach the players how to be safe when covering 1st base. Belated thanks to Marty Schnider for picking up the bases after last week's game.

Game Day - Sunday, April 18

We can't wait to see everybody Sunday at 3:30 at North Chevy Chase Park. The Blue Jays play the Diamondbacks at 4:00 p.m.

Go Blue Jays!

Coach Steve
