Season ends with fun Finale

The Blue Jays completed a fantastic spring season with a fun rematch with the Astros Sunday, June 17, at Westland Middle School.

Justin Conner, Braden Poon, John Wyatt, Jeremy Robertson, Jack Raymond, George Roggie, Ryan Groban, Ethan Yu, Dylan Yoon, Dylan Edwards, Gavin Ferguson and Sam Berman had fun, did their best, and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Technically, the Blue Jays won by forfeit.  The final score shall remain undefined due to a very good but unorthodox opponent that included teenage outfielders and a four year old designated hitter!

Nevertheless, the players congratulated each other for a fun and competitive game!

June 17 Annotated Game Report

Braden Poon deserves congratulations for an awesome day at the plate and in the field.  Braden went 3-for-3, hit a home run, scored three runs and collected two RBI.  He snagged a line drive at pitcher's helper and threw to Sam Berman at 1st base to complete a double play.  For good measure, Braden also fielded a grounder at pitcher's helper and threw to Sam for another out.  What a day!

Dylan Yoon enjoyed a flawless day with the bat.  His 3-for-3 performance included a home run, two singles, a run scored and a team leading three RBI.  Dylan also notched an infield assist when he grabbed a grounder at pitcher's helper and threw to Braden Poon at 1st base to beat the runner.

Sam Berman had a great day with the glove!  Playing at 1st base, he completed outs by hauling in two throws from Braden Poon, including one that capped a double play.  Sam also caught a fly ball at 1st base in the fourth inning.  Offensively, Sam cracked a single, scored a run, and delivered two RBI.  He also gets the hard luck award for his scorching liner that the Astros' highly skilled 2nd baseman somehow managed to catch.

John Wyatt established himself late in the season as a dependable number two hitter in the batting order.  In the season's final game, John crushed two singles and scored two runs.  He also contributed a defensive gem, covering 3rd base and nabbing a throw from left fielder George Roggie to complete a force out in the fourth inning.

Ethan Yu capped a fantastic spring 2012 campaign with another great offensive performance.  He was robbed of extra bases by the Astros' shortstop, knocked a hard single to center field, and scored a run.  Ethan also continued to progress in the field, stopping a bouncing grounder at 2nd base.

George Roggie enjoyed a fine all around performance in the season's final game.  Defensively, he collected an unassisted put out on a bouncing grounder at 1st base and caught another bouncer in left field and fired a perfect throw to John Wyatt at 3rd base to get the force out.  Offensively, George smashed two singles to center field, scored a run, and had two RBI.

Jeremy Robertson did a fine job hitting in the lead-off spot for the first time in his baseball career.  Jeremy earned the job with his outstanding hitting performances in the second half of the season.  He also demonstrated fine form in the field, stopping a ground ball at 3rd base and beating the runner to the bag to complete an unassisted force out.

Ryan Groban was a defensive stalwart for the Blue Jays throughout the spring season.  His turn at catcher in the game with the Astros was one of the more impressive displays that we've seen behind the plate at this level of baseball.  Ryan caught everything!  Offensively, Ryan chipped in with a single to the shortstop in the sixth inning.

Jack Raymond really picked up his game offensively this season.  His diligent work with the bat led to some very impressive results.  In Sunday's game, Jack hit a line drive single that landed just inside the 3rd base line in the fifth inning.  He's making good contact and increasing his power with every swing.  On the defensive side, Jack did a good job pursuing fly balls at shortstop.

Dylan Edwards came up with a huge defensive stop late in the game in right center field.  He knocked down an extremely well hit ball and returned it to the infield to hold the batter to a single.  That was a great play on a very hard hit.  Offensively, Dylan came up with a base hit of his own, bouncing a grounder through the left side of the infield in the sixth inning.

Gavin Ferguson made steady progress with the glove throughout the spring campaign.  He completed an impressive season defensively with an excellent stop of yet another well hit ball in right center field.  Gavin also chased down grounders at shortstop.  Offensively, Gavin continued to hone his swing and attack the ball aggressively.

Justin Conner is always ready to swing the bat.  He took some excellent hacks in the game with the Astros.  Justin also continued to play heads-up baseball in the field.  His work behind the plate at catcher in the fourth inning was terrific.  This guy knows what to do when he's wearing the mask!

Celebration Time!

After the game, the Blue Jays embarked upon an epic postseason celebration that, at times, appeared to be a combination of the Academy Awards and Woodstock.  This team knows how to have fun!

Thanks to everyone for another truly fantastic season!
