Six Blue Jays had fun while honing their skills in practice Saturday, May 22 at Westbrook Elementary School. James Aitken, Michael Hardie, Ryder Coleman, Braden Poon, George Roggie and Sam Berman all hit the ball well and made great plays in the field!
The Blue Jays were scheduled to play the Diamondbacks Sunday, May 23 at Norwood Park. Unfortunately, the game was postponed due to rain. We'll try it again Sunday, June 13!
May 22 Practice Report

The Blue Jays' bats were scorching in Saturday's practice. Sam Berman continued to make great contact, hitting almost every pitch. Sam crushed several hits through the right side of the infield. Later, he pounded a few grounders straight up the middle!

Ryder Coleman deserved to smile after enjoying his best practice ever at the plate. Ryder's rocket-shots to center field and left field drew oohs and aahs from the adult spectators. Ryder also smashed a line drive that would have reached the outfield if it hadn't hit coach Steve in the chest!

Braden Poon made great strides handling the bat, pounding several grounders through the gap on the right side of the infield. Braden also got around on the ball, hitting a couple of solid shots to left shortstop.

James Aitken brought a look of fierce determination to the batter's box. James put solid aluminum on the ball, knocking grounders through the left side of the infield. James added some power to his stroke this week, sending a couple of strong shots to left field!

George Roggie also handled the bat with authority. George sent at least two offerings down the 3rd base line and hit others to both the left shortstop and the right shortstop.

Michael Hardie continued to hit the ball very well at this week's practice. Michael was getting around on the ball so quickly that Coach Steve had no choice but to throw faster pitches. Michael handled them with ease!
Big Sam Cameo!

The big guy above is Sam Coleman, Ryder's older brother. Sam treated the young Blue Jays to a fine hitting display in Saturday's practice. Slammin' Sam gave our fielders an added challenge.
Blue Jays Sparkle in the Field!

Here, George Roggie celebrates a truly spectacular defensive play. George was at left shortstop when he snatched a laser beam of a line drive off the bat of Sam Coleman. That's a big out and a great play by George!

Michael Hardie continues to show outstanding form at 1st base, giving his teammates a great target on every play. Michael is like a wall - nothing gets by him!

Here, Sam Berman puts his lively and accurate arm on display. Sam threw the ball well all afternoon. He also did a great job stopping grounders and consistently getting his glove on fly balls!

James Aitken put some serious mustard on his throws from 2nd base! James seems to get stronger each week, delivering accurate throws with tremendous velocity.

Ryder Coleman led the team in the dirty uniform department! He did a super job going after grounders. Ryder does not mind getting down in the dirt if that's what it takes to make the play!
Caught on the Fly!

We added a new drill at practice this week. All six Blue Jays lined up and took turns trying to catch fly balls at the left pitcher's helper position. Everyone did a great job.

Braden Poon was particularly adept when it came to catching fly balls in the air. Above, Braden does a tremendous job watching the ball, positioning himself to make the catch, and then hauling it in. That's great work, Braden!
Catching Dads & Game Day Treats
Thanks to Steve Berman and Torsdon Poon for taking turns catching at Saturday's practice!
Thanks also to Nicole Fradette Berman and Steve Berman for volunteering to bring the postgame snacks this week.
Great practice, Blue Jays!
We're excited to see everyone when the season resumes with practice Saturday, June 5!
Coach Steve
