Five weeks ago, the Blue Jays opened the BCC Baseball season with an outstanding performance against the Giants. Six Blue Jays prepared for Sunday's rematch at practice Saturday, May 15. George Roggie, Michael Hardie, Andre Schnider, Sam Berman and Ryder Coleman are pictured above. Team photographer Sarah Roggie left practice before Aleka Frazier arrived.
The Blue Jays and Giants square-off again Sunday, May 16 at North Chevy Chase Park. The forecast indicates that Sunday afternoon will be comfortable, a nice change from our previous two games at North Chevy Chase. Game time is 4:00 p.m. We ask that everyone try to be there at 3:30. We will bat first because we are the visiting team.
May 15 Practice Report
The bats have really come alive at the last few practices.

Here, Michael Hardie focuses on keeping his hands back until the pitch arrives. Michael's work paid off handsomely in Saturday's practice. He belted hit after hit to left field!

Sam Berman continues to make huge leaps forward at every practice. This week, Sam seemed to hit every pitch - the good ones and the not-so-good ones! Sam is seeing the ball extremely well at the plate. Combine that with consistently smooth swings, and you have a bona fide slugger in the making!

George Roggie contributed to the hit parade at Saturday's practice. He took several pitches to the opposite field, smacking line drives to 3rd base and left shortstop. Near the end of batting practice, George began to pull the ball to the right side of the infield.

Andre Schnider practiced hitting overhand pitches for the first time. The results were very promising. Andre added significant power to his stroke and began to routinely rip line drives to the outfield!

Ryder Coleman appears to have been impressed by his teammates' hitting. Later, Ryder stepped to the plate and, much like Michael Hardie, concentrated on keeping his hands back until the ball arrived. Ryder's reward for his hard work was a much more powerful swing! He began to crush pitches to center field as a matter of course!
Unfortunately, we do not have a photograph of Aleka Frazier from Saturday's practice. But we are happy to report that she hit the ball better than ever! After her mom gave Coach Steve some sage pitching advice, Aleka smacked line drives to left shortstop and 2nd base!
Great job, Aleka!
Smooth Operators in the Field

This week, George Roggie worked on catching fly balls with his big cousin after school. In Saturday's practice, George demonstrated what he had learned, catching sky-high pop-ups at left pitcher's helper and at 1st base! We encourage all Blue Jays to practice on their own whenever they can.

Above, Andre Schnider cleanly fields a ground ball at left pitcher's helper. Andre also worked his fielding magic at both 1st base and 2nd base.

Above, Sam Berman fires one of many accurate throws to 1st base. Sam moved quickly to the ball and did a good job getting back to his position to cover his base.

Ryder Coleman is always aggressive when it comes to chasing down ground balls. In Saturday's practice, Ryder also worked hard to catch fly balls in the air, consistently getting his mitt on the ball. Ryder looks like he will catch his first pop fly some day very soon!

Michael Hardie caught two line drives at 2nd base! He provided his teammates an excellent target at 1st base and continued to do a good job stopping grounders at left pitcher's helper. Michael had an all-around awesome practice this week!
Parental Participation

Thanks to Marty Schnider, pictured above, and Marie Frazier for taking turns catching. Thanks also to Jennifer Cooper, Ryder's mom, for volunteering to provide the postgame treats at tomorrow's game.
Go Blue Jays! Let's have fun, try our best, and show great sportsmanship in our rematch with the Giants!
Coach Steve
