April 6-8 Weekend Preview: Baseball is Back!




The Blue Jays will open the spring BCC Baseball season this weekend with an action-packed practice on Friday and a big game with a familiar opponent on Sunday.

We would like to see a few degrees added to the forecasted high temperature on game day, but we'll take cool and dry!

We have 90 minutes of practice on Friday to get ready to play our first game!

5:30 until 7:00 p.m.

5:30 - 5:35 Warm up throw and catch

5:35 - 5:45 Welcome and Organization
  • Player and Coach Introductions; Hats!
  • Season Goal: learn what to do and then do it yourself!
  • Team Rules
  • Kids run bases; coaches and parents take positions at stations
  • Establish Groups for Stations
  • Identify Adult Chaperone for each Group
5:45 - 6:25 Skills Stations (simultaneous, rotate, 6-7 min each)
  • Station 1 - tee batting behind backstop
  • Station 2 - machine pitch batting at plate
  • Station 3 - playing catch in RF - focus on throwing and catching technique
  • Station 4 - catching above and below the chest in CF
  • Station 5 - "pitch" to coach's target from stretch at 30-40 feet in LF
  • Station 6 - field grounder, transfer, throw to coach at 2B
6:25 - 6:55 Coach Pitch Scrimmage
  • Game Simulation
  • Identify force plays - call them out!
  • Pop Quiz - know what you'll do BEFORE the ball is hit!
6:55 - 7:00 Team Building
  • Fly Ball Drill (4 lines, one parent per line, how many can we catch?)
7:00 Distribute Uniforms
