The sudden heat wave tested the will and resolve of players and coaches alike. The young Blue Jays responded with grit, turning in a performance that seemed to improve with each inning!
April 30 Game Report
Noah Solovey aggressively pursued the ball in left field and at right pitcher's helper in the very first baseball game of his career. Here, Noah demonstrates his "ready position" in the field.
At the plate, Noah progressed nicely throughout the game. In the photo above, he puts the ball in play in his second turn at bat. Noah appeared to swing harder and gain confidence with every trip to the batter's box.
Dominic Delgado plays the game with fearless tenacity. Defensively, he attacked the ball at left pitcher's helper, at 2nd base, and in the outfield. Above, he rumbles toward the plate to score a run.
Dominic demonstrates ample power for a Pre-K hitter. Here, he prepares to launch a rocket to the left side of the infield in the second inning.
Lila Schruefer proved in her second at bat that the only thing she needs is a good pitch to hit! Lila choked up on the bat and delivered solid contact - all by herself - in the second and third innings.
After touring the bases, Lila beat the heat and the opposition to score a run in the top half of the third inning. Defensively, she demonstrated readiness at right shortstop and in the outfield.
Jacob Wilson continued to expedite his development as a hitter. Above, Jake displays proper footwork as he adjusts his hands to grip the bat properly. Jake put his outstanding technique to good use, delivering solid hits in all three innings.
On the base paths, Jake paid attention and wasted little time taking off on contact from each base. Defensively, he did a good job at right shortstop and in the outfield.
Adam Farber capped each inning with a huge blast that had the opposition backing up in the field. Here, he loads up and launches a line shot to left field.
Adam's blasts enabled him to motor around the bases and end each offensive stanza with a major statement. Adam also played well at 1st base, 3rd base, and in the outfield.
Grady Blair enjoyed a sterling season debut with three outstanding hits up the middle of the field. Here, Grady glides toward home plate in the top of the second inning.
Remembering to touch each base before heading for home, Grady showed off what he'd learned at practice on Friday. In the field, Grady made a nice play on a ground ball at right pitcher's helper and played heads-up baseball in the outfield.
Niara Gupta was steady and ready at right pitcher's helper in the bottom of the first. Here, Niara focuses on the batter just before she fielded a ground ball and remembered to throw to 1st base.
Niara's natural ability shines through when she has a bat in her hands. Look at that stance - hands together; bat up and back; knees bent; eyes focused on the ball. That is beautiful! It's no wonder she belted three shots up the middle.
A big guy with loads of power potential, Luke Kavounas needed little time to put the ball in play in each trip to the plate. Above, Luke readies himself before pounding a ground ball up the middle in the third inning.
Luke very nearly completed the Blue Jays' first assisted put-out at 1st base in the bottom of the second inning. Above, Luke tracks the ball as he toes the bag with the correct foot.
Ethan Chu proved to be a quick study in his first full weekend of baseball. Above, Ethan focuses on the batter as he prepares to take off for home plate.
Defensively, Ethan learned to put his mitt on the ground to field groundballs at right shortstop and in left field. Here, Ethan hustles off the field after another successful inning.
Milen Hukmani has established himself as a reliable 1st baseman and 3rd baseman in a short period of time. Above, Milen mans the 1st base position, where he made two good stops in the third inning.
Adding punch to the offensive lineup, Milen delivered a line drive to left field in the top of the third inning. Here, he heads for home to score another run for the Blue Jays.
Jacob Carle treated onlookers to a dazzling display at left pitcher's helper and at shortstop, making multiple stops on grounders and delivering accurate throws to 1st base. Jacob's work with the leather was a site to behold!
In the top of the first inning, Jacob got the Blue Jays off to a good start with a line drive base hit to center field. Here, Jacob uses his elite speed on the base paths.
Clark Roggie's line drive to center field in the top of the third inning was unlike anything we have seen from a Pre-K kid. Never shy when holding a bat, Clark demonstrates quick hands from the left side of the plate.
After losing his helmet on the way to home plate, Clark scored a run in the top of the first inning. Defensively, he completed an unassisted force out at 2nd base in the bottom of the third.
When this hot and grueling contest was complete, the Blue Jays congratulated the Pirates, a tough and seasoned opponent.
Fortunately, everyone was able to cool off thanks to the postgame treats that were provided by Adam's parents. Thanks, Farber Family!
All In!
Rishi Gupta ably kept the runners ready and the traffic moving at 1st base.
Eric Delgado did an outstanding job at catcher, providing much appreciated hitting instruction along the way.
George Roggie entered the game in the second inning and proved to be a much better pitcher than his dad. It is not a coincidence that the Blue Jays' offense really started to roll when George took the mound.
Navin Hukmani is always quick to help out at practices and games. He did a great job coaching at 3rd base in Sunday's game.
One quarter of the way through the 2017 spring season, things are looking up. We can't wait to see what comes next for this team!
