Blue Jays come up big in game with Giants!

The Blue Jays overcame a lean starting line-up with a lot of heart and effort in their game with the Giants Sunday, October 9 at Bethesda Elementary School.

Ryan Groban, William Amorosi, Ethan Yu, John Wyatt, Braden Poon, Andre Schnider, Gavin Ferguson and George Roggie had a great time on a beautiful afternoon and demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship along the way.

The final score was Blue Jays 6, Giants 3.

October 9 Game Report

Running the bases backwards was so well received at Saturday's practice that we decided to have the team do it again to warm up for the game.

And it worked!

Gavin Ferguson was a key cog in the Blue Jays' offensive machine. He put the Blue Jays on the scoreboard with a solid RBI single in the first inning.

Apparently, Gavin was not satisfied with driving in one run. He returned to the plate in the second inning and delivered another RBI single.

Even better, both of Gavin's run-scoring hits came with two outs.

The guy is clutch!

Andre Schnider returned to the Blue Jays' line-up and immediately commenced smacking the ball around the field!

Andre spent a good portion of the afternoon running the bases. His pristine 4-for-4 batting line included a double, three singles, and two RBI.

Andre turned in a gutsy performance at catcher in the game's final inning. He also made an unassisted put-out at 2nd base in the first inning.

Ryan Groban has become a reliable run producer for the Blue Jays.

Here, Ryan takes off for 1st base after pounding a grounder past the shortstop. Ryan collected two singles and two RBI in the game with the Giants. He has now driven in six runs in three games this season.

A hard-nosed player, Ryan told us that he wanted an opportunity to play catcher. We were happy to oblige. He did an outstanding job behind the plate in the fifth inning.

Braden Poon continued to give the Blue Jays consistent offensive production. He collected three base hits and scored two runs. Braden now sports a robust .769 batting average to go along with eight RBI and seven runs scored in three games this season.

Braden demonstrated tremendous versatility in the field. He did a great job at 1st base, 2nd base and pitcher's helper in the game with the Giants.

William Amorosi delivered the goods offensively for the Blue Jays.

Above, William gets ready to sprint to second base after knocking a hard single to the shortstop in the third inning. William also belted a solid grounder to the pitcher's helper in the fifth inning.

The most difficult part of playing catcher is putting on the gear. After getting assistance from his dad, Mark Amorosi, and Torsdon Poon, William took a turn behind the plate and did a fantastic job.

In the action photo above, Ethan Yu sends a blast through the infield in the first inning. Ethan collected two singles, reached on a fielder's choice, and advanced base runners throughout the afternoon.

Ethan wore a look of satisfaction after scoring a run to give the Blue Jays the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Ethan would score again in the second inning. He now has six runs scored in three games this season.

Ethan really put the "catch" in catcher, nabbing pitch after pitch from the Blue Flame. He wielded such a hot glove that we were hoping he would have a chance to catch a foul tip third strike.

We have no doubt that he would have done it!

George Roggie was a starter and a finisher for the Blue Jays' offense, scoring the team's first run in the first inning and its final run in the fifth inning. George leads the team in that category with eight runs scored in three games.

George collected three singles to bring his season batting average to .846. Defensively, he added an unassisted put-out on a well hit ground ball to 1st base in the second inning.

John Wyatt hit in the lead-off spot for the Blue Jays. He reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning and smacked a hard grounder to 3rd base in the first inning.

John also did a terrific job in the field. His smooth pickup of a ground ball and accurate throw to 1st base in the second inning were particularly impressive.

We were very proud of the way the team pulled together and overcame the low head count. As always, the Blue Jays demonstrated great sportsmanship, congratulating the Giants for a fun, competitive game.

This fantastic effort was deserving of smiles from fans of all ages.

Appreciation

Thanks to Coach Tom Yu for doing his typically outstanding job coaching and umpiring at 1st base. Tom and Kelli Yu also provided the post game snacks and drinks.

Thank you, Yu Family!

Coach Brian Ferguson kept a keen eye on the goings on at 3rd base. His coaching was outstanding. His umpiring was even better!

It seemed that Brian had to make the calls on the game's closest plays.

He nailed them all!

Landon Poon relieved Brian late in the game. Above, Landon urges his brother, Braden, to get on his horse and head for home.

Well done, Landon!

Susan Poon is an awesome scorekeeper! Her notes help us to understand exactly what happened during the game.

Thanks, Susan!

We needed more help than usual to keep the bench organized because Sarah was otherwise engaged.

As usual, Torsdon Poon stepped up and did the job that needed to be done.

Thanks, Torsdon!

Because Sarah is also our team photographer, we needed some help with that, too. Enter Kristina Wyatt, pictured above with Lily and John.

Kristina took most of the photos that are included in this game report.

Thank you, Kristina!

Great Game on a Great Weekend

Great game, Blue Jays!

We can't wait to do it again next weekend!

Coach Steve
