Two birds battle in a great Game!

The Blue Jays had fun and played extremely well in their game with the Orioles Sunday, May 1 at Pyle Middle School.

May 1 Game Report

The entire team overcame the surprisingly chilly weather and even a few raindrops to put on a fabulous performance!

George Roggie had the Orioles backing up each time he came up to bat but they couldn't move back far enough!

George hit two doubles and a scorching single!

Above, George breathes a sigh of relief after evading the tag with a daring slide at 2nd base. George made three trips around the bases and had a lot of fun whacking Coach Steve's pitches to the outfield!

In the field George jumped and dove for the ball, even getting his jersey a little dirty in the process!

Jake Schuman delivered the goods defensively for the Blue Jays!

He was simply awesome at 3rd base in the first inning. First, Jake fielded two consecutive grounders and raced to the bag to get the force outs. He also tagged out a runner on the final play of the inning. That's super, Jake!

Jake tallied another put-out at left pitcher's helper in the second inning, snagging a ground ball and beating the runner to 3rd base for the force out. That's four put-outs in one game! What a day!

Jake also enjoyed a productive day offensively. Here, he prepares to crush one of his three solid singles. Jake's line drive to left field in the third inning was particularly impressive.

The Blue Jays were very happy to welcome back Braden Poon, who spent the first few weeks of the season on the disabled list with an ankle injury. Showing no rust in the batters' box, Braden laced a line drive past the 1st baseman on his first trip to the plate.

Braden delivered three solid singles and ran the bases with his usual ferocity!

In the field, Braden showed us that he has not forgotten how to use his mitt!

His unassisted put-out at 3rd base in the second inning left no doubt; Braden is back!

Aleka Frazier was fabulous at 3rd base in the game with the Orioles! In the third inning, Aleka stopped a bouncing ball and beat the runner to the bag for the force out. That's highlight reel material!

Aleka also added some pop to the Blue Jays' offense.

She crushed grounders to 2nd base, left shortstop, and 3rd base!

Once she reached base, Aleka was a speed demon! Great game, Aleka!

Andre Schnider's power at the plate gave the Blue Jays many reasons to smile. His huge hits drove in more runs than we were able to count!

His three hits included a terrific double to center field. Andre gave the ball a good ride with each swing and scored three big runs for his team!

Andre did a great job in the field, too. His pickup of a well hit ground ball at 2nd base in the second inning was an outstanding play.

Sam Berman continued to collect put-outs at a rapid clip! In the first inning, he fielded a grounder and stepped on 1st base for a force out. In the third inning, he caught a line drive in the air at left pitcher's helper and tagged 2nd base to get the runner who forgot to tag up. That's an unassisted double play. Wow!

Sam also enjoyed a productive day with the bat. He crushed three hard singles and reached base safely in each trip to the plate.

Aggressive base running is key to Sam's success. Two of his hits featured close plays at 1st base. On both occasions, Sam was safe because he hustled down the base line and beat the throw by inches.

Ethan Yu hit the ball with authority in the game with the Orioles. He pounded three hard hits to the right side of the infield.

Ethan's hitting prowess afforded him many opportunities to sprint around the bases and score runs for his team!

Ethan was often in the middle of the action in the infield.

He stopped two tough ground balls at right pitcher's helper in the second inning. Ethan also played heads-up baseball at 2nd base in the third inning. This guy is a great team player!

Everyone enjoyed seeing Justin Conner back in a Blue Jays uniform! He gave great effort and nearly caught a fly ball at left shortstop in the second inning.

Justin also stopped two grounders at right pitcher's helper in the third inning.

Justin was a big hitter in the game with the Orioles. His line drive to center field in the first inning was outstanding. The Blue Jays are glad to have you back, Justin!

In the action photo above, Ava Curley initiates a terrific swing to deliver one of her three fantastic singles of the afternoon.

Ava reached 1st base safely in each at bat!

Ava also chipped in on defense, tracking down a well hit line drive at the left shortstop position in the third inning. Ava's hustle prevented the runner from scoring on the game's final play. Thanks, Ava!

Jeremy Robertson did some fine work with his glove in the second inning. He fielded a well hit ground ball at right shortstop and gave great effort in an attempt to throw the runner out at 1st base.

Jeremy is becoming a reliable offensive force for the Blue Jays. He continued a recent trend, slamming three hard hits and reaching base safely twice in the game with the Orioles.

Jeremy's line drive in the third inning would have landed in left field had the Orioles' shortstop not made a spectacular catch. Sometimes the other team makes a great play. That doesn't change the fact that Jeremy's hit was incredible!

Afterward, the Blue Jays and the Orioles congratulated one another for a fun and well played game.

Friends and Family

Thanks to Tom Yu for coaching at 1st base again this week. We promise that some day we will permit Tom to relax, sit back, enjoy a cold beverage of his choosing, and watch a game in peace!

Thanks to Marty Schnider for taking over coaching duties at 3rd base this week. We hope that waving home all of those Blue Jays did not make Marty's arm too sore!

Austin Schnider is Marty's son and Andre's brother. We lured him into catching Coach Steve's typically erratic pitches. Thankfully, Austin appears to have come away unscathed.

Thanks, Austin!

Josef Robertson is Jeremy's brother. He also happens to be the MVBB - Most Valuable Bat Boy - of the BCC National League!

Thank you, Josef!

Chris and Trista Robertson are Josef's and Jeremy's parents. Trista kept the Blue Jays in their batting order and took copious notes that allowed us to generate this game report. Chris enjoyed the game after toiling for three days amid a sea of azaleas.

Thank you, Robertsons!

Also, thanks to Kristina Wyatt for making a special trip to deliver the post game snacks. John Wyatt was under the weather and unable to play.

Get well soon, John, and thank you, Kristina!

Great game, Blue Jays! We are very proud of the way the team had fun, did its best, and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship.

We look forward to doing it again next week.

Go Blue Jays!

Coach Steve
